I have lived in Taiwan for about 5 years and can speak some Chinese. I have only studied on my own at home. I really want to improve my ability in Chinese because I plan to live here for a while. My wife is Taiwanese and we have two children. I could practice with my wife, of course, but we want to create and English environment for the kids at home.

My Chinese level is good on a day-to-day basis, but right now I feel like I don't understand anything that's going on in my classes and my head is going to explode. Specifically I need help with pronunciation, especially tones, improving my vocabulary, and writing academic papers. Sometimes there are some practical issues too, like understanding the emails I get from the department or figuring out how to find books in bookstores here (are they SERIOUSLY arranged by publisher? That's frankly insane). I'm looking for a tutor and language partners. My English level is excellent and I've taught high-level English for over three years. I can explain grammar, have experience teaching pronunciation, and can show you how to write at a higher level. In the case of language partners, I'd like to meet for two hours at a time, one hour Chinese and one hour English - I will prepare my own materials related to what I need to study in Chinese and you may do the same for English. I am in need of a Mandarin tutor who can translate a one page letter written in English into Chinese with (English?) pin-yin. My goal is to be able to read this letter out loud in Mandarin, even though I am unable to read Chinese characters. Hello everybody, 6 weeks ago I arrived in Taipei and will stay 10 months before I return to Germany. I study at a private University and would like to improve my overall Chinese skills. Beside my studies of BA I have free time according to the below schedule (Monday and Thursday morning preferred). I practiced Chinese already 1 year but only part time, so I have some basics...(forgot the most). I would like to follow the book: Practical Chinese Reader in which I completed the first 6 chapters.
