Looking for a Chinese tutor to help with my speaking and listening. My goal is to one day be able to have a conversation in Chinese. My level is very basic, and I’m usually free during lunch times or Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.

Hi, I'm Mark. I am recently returning to Taipei after almost a decade in the States. I am looking for a language exchange or language classes with someone interested in things I am interested in — film, writing, education, arts. I’ve been teaching film arts and humanities in the university in Taiwan and the States since the late nineties (in English). Once upon a time, I was nominated for a Golden Bell and Golden Horse award in Taiwan. Also at one point, several years ago, I could read and write about 200 Chinese characters (that's down to about five now). I would like to improve my speaking/listening in Mandarin, and in exchange I can offer a great deal of English educational expertise and film/art experience (if we go the language exchange route). If we go the Mandarin-class route, I am interested in classes that assess my level, strengths and weaknesses in spoken-Chinese, perhaps some help in selecting materials and resources for self-study, and interesting conversation in film, arts, everyday life, and life in Taipei.

I have lived in Taiwan for 3 years, I originally studied Chinese at NTU for 6 months, and after that was studying with a tutor for the last two years or so. I've been learning Chinese by myself since taking a 3 month course at MTC NTNU 2 years ago. My progress has been okay but I'm struggling to have more in-depth conversations and my reading has also been pretty weak. I came to Taiwan from March-August 2022 to learn Chinese and decided to stay to improve my language ability further. However, as I am now working at a cram school, I don't have much time to study. Hi all, I'm looking for a private Chinese tutor for in person lessons around Taipei (I live in Shilin but work near Xinyi so really anywhere in the city is fine). I went to a language centre before and at the end of my course passed TOCFL Level 3 so my Chinese is okay but I've only had experience with academic learning. I'm a big believer that I need more input (through listening, reading and watching TV/movies) to help me improve my vocabulary and how well I use Chinese. So I'm hoping to find a teacher who's experienced in using these kinds of methods to teach their students, knows some useful resources for building up reading and listening comprehension and would be willing to base our classes around this kind of content. I want to live and work in Taiwan for the foreseeable future so my main goal for learning Chinese is just to make life here more smooth and also open up future job opportunities!
