Have you been disappointed or left feeling frustrated by traditional teaching methods? If so, I may be able to help you learn practical Chinese in a more natural and stress-free way.

I strive to use teaching methods that are recognized as effective by language acquisition research, avoiding methods that have already shown to be ineffective. In particular, I place emphasis on “comprehensible input”, a style of language that is aimed at helping you to understand everything that is said in the lesson. My goal is for each lesson to be 100% comprehensible to you, and not leave you wondering what something means. Through understanding and comprehension, especially of interesting material, your language ability can develop naturally, even if you’re an adult. It’s important to understand that this process takes time, but the results can be much longer lasting than with traditional methods.

As a teacher, I’m pretty flexible, and can adjust to many different requirements. I can teach complete beginners, but also business and technical Chinese if you’re an advanced student.

For beginners and intermediate students, I have a number of methods that we can use, including TPR (a method that is aimed at teaching language through movements and actions -- brilliant for developing knowledge of how to use verbs and nouns naturally) and interactive storytelling (a method where the student and teacher work together to create fictitious scenarios that make use of language we want to acquire).

These methods can be extremely effective for people of any age, even older adults.

For students with more experience, or for those who want a different approach, I can also teach reading and writing. I don’t normally use a textbook, but can if you want me to.

I can help you to correct essays and academic theses, or help you to prepare for examinations. In addition, I can help you to overcome any pronunciation difficulties you may have.

For those who need to improve proficiency in a short period of time, I can provide intensive courses. Though I would always recommend sufficient rest between teaching sessions to allow your brain to recover!
