Hello! My name is Mark and I just arrived in Taipei. I am looking for a tutor who can help me with basic Mandrin (mostly listening and speaking). I would prefer to meet anywhere on the red/green MRT line (between Gongguan and Shuanglien) two or three times each week for 2 hours. I am on a student budget so most likely I can't afford the more highly qualified teachers (NT250-300/hr). Bachelor's degree or less is ok.

I've been in Taiwan for 3 years. I can easily get around with all basic Chinese, so I want to take it to the next level. I bought the Practical Audio Visual books and studied by myself and I'm half way through Book 3. Problem is I'm just memorizing things and never use them in real conversation!! So I just want someone to chat with in Chinese. Someone who asks great questions to spark a conversation which forces me to speak and try to use the Chinese I've already learned. To be honest, my BEST conversations happen with taxi drivers (but it's not practical to sit in a taxi for 1 hour!). So I don't really care about teaching degrees because nobody can teach conversation skills... I'm looking for probably just 1 hour/week to start and anytime on the weekend is best for me.

I have lived in Taiwan and Asia for a number of years but am very embarrassed with my low level of Chinese!!! I am from the UK and live and work in Guting - I work in finance as a fund manager and this is mostly where I need help with my Chinese (although I would also like to be able to communicate better in day to day conversation too).
