I'm a fluent Mandarin speaker so I can catch common mistakes and explain why you cannot say it that way in English. We can meet at any café or Starbucks in the Da'an area. Because I am a very experienced teacher I will ask for $1000 per hour but am willing to give discounts if you have a 1.5 or 2 hour class. Hi there, my name is Jeff, raised in California. As a foreign teacher, I have taught students of many different age groups, from kindergarten to elementary school to university. I began teaching in 2006, and have been teaching kids under 12 for about three and half years, and adults over 18 for about three years. For those aged between 12 and 18, I have about a year's tutoring experience; for adults over 18, I have about two year's tutoring experience. I believe the best way to acquire a better command of English is through cultural immersion. Therefore, all of my classes are conducted exclusively in English, even when teaching grammar. Cultural immersion works more effectively when you are facing a teacher who was raised in a Western country: I believe logic, culture, and language are all interrelated. Unless your aim is to simply get through school or prepare for tests, I think explanation or translation in Chinese is unnecessary, and actually counterproductive to language learning. But if you so desire, I will conduct the class in both Chinese and English, because I am the teacher, and my job is to help you learn. Only you can decide what is important to you. I must say that, it is the student's responsibility to learn. My responsibility is to guide you so you can learn more effectively, but I cannot make you learn—I can only help.
