My son has has attended an all-Chinese elementary school since first grade. He will being 5th grade next year. His teacher says that compared to other students his age, his vocabulary is less complex. At home, I speak to him in English, and my husband speaks to him in Turkish. We would like to hire a tutor to meet with our son twice a week, in order to expose him to more complex vocabulary. Our plan was to ask the tutor to read and discuss articles from Young Newton Magazine with him. This magazine seems to be the right level of challenge, because there are some unfamiliar words there and the topics will give him good exposure to science vocabulary.
