Kai-Ping Culinary School is a renowned culinary school located in central Taipei close to Technology Building MRT Station. We use a thematic teaching approach that aims to assist our students’ journey to self- discovery, and our success is showcased by many of our alumni in the food and beverage industry. Our school’s education philosophy is unique in Taiwan; we focus on building guanxi, or relationships, so we encourage freedom of expression from our teachers and students to foster building better relationships. Our school environment is free yet professional.

We are looking for a native English teacher for the 2020-2021 school year who is energetic, responsible, and patient and has a passion for education to teach and assist in setting up our International Bridge Program (IBP), a program for culinary students who intend to study or work abroad after school. The primary goals of our program are to foster global mobility and instill a sense of global citizenship and professionalism in our students. A few notes about the position:

1. Work hours:
Work hours will be from 8AM-5PM Monday to Friday with a 70 to 90-minute lunch break. Schedule may be adjusted according to national holidays or special school events.

2. Class hours:
Classes will be spread between 10th 11th and 12th grade English and thematic teaching projects. Each day, there are three 100-minute periods plus extracurriculars in the afternoon. Teachers can generally expect to teach between 8 and 12 periods per week depending on the needs of the IBP program and the school.

3. Work VISA:
Applicants need to have permanent residence status (APRC). To sponsor an ARC, candidates must hold a teaching license from the USA, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, or South Africa. (*due to the uncertainties caused by the pandemic, we will be looking for teachers who are already living in Taipei)

4. Compensation:
Salary will be commensurate with the teacher’s experience, education, and qualifications. We also offer paid national holidays and one-week paid vacations in both the winter and summer.

5. Other requirements:
A. Teachers will need to assess students’ levels and abilities. Our school does not formally use textbooks, so teachers will need to create lessons that are engaging, educational, and are in line with IBP’s major goals mentioned above.
B. To promote teachers’ growth, all teachers are to read recommended material regarding thematic teaching approach and required to write reflection notes regarding teaching experience to share with other teachers.
Reflection notes: The “six-step method” (situation, comparison, emotional processing, decision-making, action, and evaluation) is reflective thinking and writing; all daily experiences are transformed into dialogue and actions. This is an internal dialogue, inner-self emotion caring experience, and the evaluation of words-deeds integration. Furthermore, it’s an accumulation of the energy of knowledge, skills, and attitudes. It’s a large amount of recording about the speculation of the value in education work and the research of teaching methods. And it also profoundly reflects the positions of teaching and learning and the relationship between teachers and students. C. Teachers will need to participate in school events such as summer camp, student interviews and recruitment, school orientation etc.
D. Candidates who could teach a theme-based class related to IBP’s goals in a different subject than English are a definite plus.
